Welcome to the first interview on NetworkRoundup.com. I am very excited to be able to introduce you to our first guest, Matthew Lovett.

Many of you may already know Matt from one of his many large and successful online ventures, but for those of you who don't, Matt is the owner of Wow Media and more specifically his affiliate network WOW Trk.

Matt has been in the industy many years now and it is a pleasure be able to catch up with him and provide you all with a little insight in to his business and life.

Let's get started.

Firstly, for those who may not be aware of who you are and what you do, give us a little introduction to yourself. How old are you? Where are you from? What are your hobbies?

Turned 21 a couple of months ago (finally!) and from Nottinghamshire in England. I don’t have a huge range of hobbies, I do love technology and working, I guess I do like to travel as well.

We all know you from Wow Media. Walk us through your journey, how did you get started online and progress to where you are today?

Well.. it all started when I was selling sweets at school at the age of about 12/13. After a while me and my friend managed to save up £20 (yeh I know, not a huge amount!), we used that to pay for our domain and a logo - we had the idea of being the first cashback site in the UK with no minimum payout on what you earned. The site immediately started doing well and on the first day it made £30, at 12/13 this was amazing! 6 months later the site was making £2,000-£3,000 a month.

Around a year later my friend moved away to Australia, we decided to close down the site and we setup our own separate cashback sites. A couple of years after that I used the money to start up WOW Media which at first ran cashback sites and our affiliate network (which you know today as WOW Trk).

You must be a busy man, is it all work and no play?

Ha. Its a lot of work, I try to stick to a certain amount of hours a week (although I never do!). I would say most my week is work but I try to pencil in certain days to relax but even on those day I will still be replying to emails on my phone most the day.

As people may be aware, you received the award for ‘Enterprising Young Brit of the Year’ award at only 17 years old. What was it like to receive such an accolade and what ONE piece of advice would you give to other budding young entrepreneurs out there who are getting started?

Amazing! It was fantastic to be given such a prestigious award and against such fantastic businesses.

My one piece of advice would most likely be don’t give up, but at the same time you need to know when to give up on an idea and try something else. Sometimes you can think something is amazing but no one else does, after spending money and time it can be hard to let an idea go.

So 2012 has been another busy year for Wow Media, what does 2013 hold for you guys? Are there any big projects in the pipelines?

Yes! We have some small ones and a big one. The big one is something a bit different to what anyone else is offering, I am really excited about this and I think it will help a lot of people in affiliate marketing! Unfortunately I can’t say any more than that.

That's great to hear. It seems to be doom and gloom at the minute in the affiliate marketing industry, with networks disappearing left, right and centre, what are your views on the future of affiliate marketing?

You hear that from some, but you do hear of great success stories. A few years ago it was a lot easier to make money from affiliate marketing and it is always getting harder. I think as long as you keep on top of the ever changing industry and don’t get stuck in the past - you will be able to make money.

We recently met and had a catch up at ad:tech London and you’ve recently returned from ad:tech New York but what is your favourite show and favourite city to visit?

ad:tech London was a better show, however New York was obviously a better city! Ha ha. I have seen London a hundred times and New York is such a lively place. ad:tech London seemed more relevant to us though than the NY show, I think the NY show suffered a bit this year though due to Sandy.

Finally, a few quick fire questions. Who is your biggest inspiration in the business world?

Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group. He pretty
much always has been, one of my best days when I got to meet him at his house in Oxford.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

When things go bad, don’t just sit around feeling sorry for yourself. Move on, work harder and learn from your mistakes.

And one for fun… if the internet was never invented, what do you think you would be doing now?

Been asked this once or twice before. Some people have said to me would you be selling advertising offline? I don’t think I would be though.

I am not sure if I would even be running my own company, I had an interest in programming (something I still do, I have just never had the time to learn) - so I might have gone on to do that instead at University.

Thank you
